A Time to Be Born – Zephlyn Lucile Bailey Greenhill was born on October 31, 1929 to the union of the late Fletcher L. and Pearl Thompson Bailey in Cherokee, (Colbert County) Alabama.
She was the eldest of four, in which two siblings precede her in death.
A Time to Sprout – Zephlyn graduated from Cherokee High School and further her education at Tuskegee Institute (University) majoring in Home Economics. While attending Tuskegee, she was a member of the girls’ basketball team, as well as the cheerleading squad.
She received Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Cherokee.
A Time to Bloom – Zephlyn Bailey was united in holy matrimony in 1950 to Odell Greenhill. Upon marrying, Zephlyn relocated to Flint, Michigan. In 1952, Zephlyn and Odell made Lorain, Ohio their permanent residence. To their union were born four children: Jacqueline, Cheryl, Michael and Kerry. Zephlyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She actively engaged in her children’s school activities and functions. Zephlyn was also an active member of Wesley UMC for over 60 years where she served in numerous roles until her health declined. She was at peace in the love of God. Her leisure time activities included: family gatherings, cooking, traveling, casino trips, flower and vegetable gardening and following Cleveland major league teams.
A Time to Wane – Zephlyn’s homegoing was peaceful. Simply going to sleep in the arms of her Lord and Savior, leaving behind, to celebrate her life and legacy are her children: Jacqueline Greenhill; Cheryl Adkisson; Michael Greenhill; Kerry(Gerald) Schrader; 8 grandchildren , 13 great grandchildren; sister E. Jean Wrice; sister-laws: Earlene Bailey and Ruby Bailey; “bonus daughters“: Dr. Lillie Smith , Dr. Altressa Drummond and Barbara Middlebrooks; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Zephlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Odell Greenhill; parents Fletcher and Pearl Bailey; and brothers, Caimp and Robert Bailey.
The viewing for Mrs. Greenhill will be on Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 9:00am-10:00am. Her memorial service will follow immediately afterwards at 10:00am.
