Verneatha D. Walker (nee Orr) 61 of Lorain, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on September 25, 2020 at Mercy Hospital.
Verneatha was born November 22, 1958 in Cleveland, Oh to Hershel Orr and Lynn Roberts. She was adopted and raised by her grandparents, Curtis Sr. and Willie Orr.
Nita attended Clearview High School, Lorain, where she graduated as a member of National Honor Society in 1977. Also, she played a trumpet in the marching band and was active in many other clubs and originations. After graduating from high school, she attended Lorain County Community College, earning a degree in Early Childhood Development. Nita moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1980, where she met and married her husband, Charles. In 1982, she and Charles moved to North Carolina, after she gave birth of their first son. She and Charles welcomed two more children. There was always room in her home for any child who needed her.
Nita enjoyed spending time with her family, playing all types of card and board games and listening to music. Her favorite artists where Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Her other interest included bowling, dancing, traveling, concerts, and going to amusement parks.
After receiving her degree, Nita worked for many years in childcare. It was her one true passion, other than childcare, she worked at Charter One Bank, Precise Pest Control, and varies daycares. Nita retired from Loving and Giving Childcare.
Nita always had a big smile and warm loving welcome for everyone she knew.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Curtis and Willie Orr; maternal grandparents, Winfred and Julia Roberts; siblings, Charlie, Ad, Curtis, Teheda, Hershel, Virginia, and Clarence.
Verneatha leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles, of 39 years; children, Charles III (Sakena), Curtis (Jessica) and Cheri (John), Mother Lynn Roberts; sisters, Valerie (Clyde), Stephine, Sherissa, Berniece, and Tamera; brothers, Reree, Edward, Eddie Jr., Marvin, Eric, and Reginold; Fourteen grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews; extended family, Marva, Harris(sister), Darrell, Say’quanda, Shawn, Ann, Monique, Matt, LaTrek, and James.
Friends may be received on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave, Lorain. A Walk-Thru only will be at 10:00a.m. and Service will be at 11:00a.m. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, you are required to wear a MASK and Social Distancing is a must.
