Sybil Jean Nelson (Tucker) was born on April 27, 1947, in Pike County Alabama to the late Cleveland Sr. and Mildred Tucker. She graduated from Stringer High School and shortly after settled in Elyria, Ohio, where she started her family and raised her four children.
She made a living working at Ridgid Tool and later became self-employed as a childcare provider out of her home. Sybil left an impact on many families.
Bethany Baptist Church is where she served the Lord faithfully. She was on the Usher Board and was the Vice President and Treasurer of the Deaconesses. She was also a Trustee and served as the Treasurer for the Missionary Society. Her passion for cooking drew her to become co-chair of the kitchen committee as well.
Sybil loved to garden, bake and find new recipes. She had a natural talent for softball and was an avid bowler.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Cleveland Sr. and Mildred Tucker; brothers: Cleveland Jr., Kelvin, Larry and Lamon “Charles” Tucker; sister: Dorothy McLeod and life-long friend, Arneatha Winn.
Sybil passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 11, 2023.
She leaves to cherish and celebrate her memories, her children: James “Pop” Mahone (Lisa) of Elyria, OH, Michael Mahone of Louisville KY, Latonya Mahone of Elyria, OH, Max Nixon (Alecia) of Portland MI; sisters: Marguerite Pearson, Nellie McLeod (Lamar); brothers: James “Sport” Tucker (Joanne), Melvin Tucker (Velma) and Timothy Tucker (Florence); sisters-in-law: Queen Tucker and Chandra Tucker; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
