Saundra Thompson Obituary

Saundra Lee Thompson, 69 of Elyria, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2022, at her home. Sandi, as she was known by her friends and family was born on May 27, 1952, to Nathaniel and Lee Ann Hopkins in Elyria, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Elyria High school where she developed her passion for reading. That passion would ultimately turn into a wonderful career in the Elyria City School system for over 30 years. She worked at Crestwood and Northwood before being assigned to Elyria High school where she recently retired in 2019 as a Library Media Specialist.

In addition to her love of reading, she had an extraordinary collection of Longaberger baskets she accumulated over the years, that she displayed proudly around her home. She also collected items such as depression glass and “All God’s Children” figurines. Her collection of books would leave you speechless as she loved her book clubs that fed her passion for reading. More recently she had taken up quilting as a hobby encouraged by a Christmas gift from her only son Steven and his wife Melissa. Lastly, she loved her close group of lifelong friends that she always referred to as the “the Girls”.

She is survived by her son Steven Thompson, his wife Melissa and her three grandsons, Cole, Camden, and Cade.  She is also survived by her only sister Gayle (Hopkins) Board of Elyria, OH and her three brothers Gregory Hopkins and his wife Diane of Frisco, TX, Terry Hopkins, and his wife Jacque of Converse, TX, and Kevin Hopkins and his wife Lisa of Elyria, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The viewing and Celebration of Life will be held at 2nd Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Ln, Elyria, OH 44035 on Thursday March 3rd. 2022. The viewing will be from 9:00am to 11:00am immediately followed by her Celebration of Life, promptly at 11:00am.

The interment will be at Brookdale Cemetery, 41600 Oberlin/Elyria Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 immediately following.
