Obituary

Saundra Lee Thompson, 69 of Elyria, Ohio, passed away on February 24, 2022, at her home. Sandi, as she was known by her friends and family was born on May 27, 1952, to Nathaniel and Lee Ann Hopkins in Elyria, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Elyria High school where she developed her passion for reading. That passion would ultimately turn into a wonderful career in the Elyria City School system for over 30 years. She worked at Crestwood and Northwood before being assigned to Elyria High school where she recently retired in 2019 as a Library Media Specialist.

In addition to her love of reading, she had an extraordinary collection of Longaberger baskets she accumulated over the years, that she displayed proudly around her home. More recently she had taken up quilting as a hobby encouraged by a Christmas gift from her only son Steven and his wife Melissa. Lastly, she loved her close group of lifelong friends that she always referred to as the “the Girls”.
