Richard Greene Middlebrooks died peacefully at Westbrook Place Nursing Home on March 20, 2020 in Westlake, Ohio, at the age of 75. Richard was born on March 7, 1945, in Akron, Ohio, to Charles and Lillie Mae Middlebrooks.
He graduated from Admiral King High School. After brief tour in the U.S. Army, Richard moved to Lorain, Ohio, and began working for U.S Steel. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends remember him as a kind and loving man who loved to tell stories, sing, BBQ, watch various sporting events and Westerns. Known as "Big Richard" in his youth, he was a stand-out high school football player and skilled at every sport he played. His athletic genes still carry on today in his children and grandchildren.
Richard is survived by ​former wife, Barbara Middlebrooks of Lorain, Ohio; siblings Gwen Middlebrooks of Lorain, Ohio and David Middlebrooks; children, Corey Middlebrooks (Brandy) of Oberlin, Ohio, Alyse Mitcham (Kenyatta) of Euclid, Ohio and Shannon Lee (Christina) of Lorain, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Mattie Lee Greene, Father Charles Middlebrooks, mother Lillie Mae Middlebrooks, sister Helen Sharp and daughter Crystal Rebecca Middlebrooks.
In lieu of a funeral, a private family gathering will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Westbrook Place Nursing Home and their staff, especially Ms. Barb and Hospice of the Western Reserve for taking such good care of him over the years.
