Reuben Lawrence Barker was born on February 10, 1942, in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, to the late Trilby Arbor Scroggins.  He was baptized at an early age and was united with Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church located in Cotton Plant, Arkansas.

Reuben was an only child, so he had a very close relationship with his aunts, uncles and his many cousins, while living on his grandparents’ farm in Cotton Plant, Arkansas.

Reuben graduated from Cotton Plant Vocational High School in 1961. After graduating, he attended the Arkansas A. M. & N College, which is now known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he majored in Education. Reuben graduated in 1966 and moved near Chicago and worked in the Illinois Public School System. After leaving the school system, Reuben moved to Elyria, Ohio.  He was gainfully employed at HydroTube Enterprises until his retirement.  While living in Elyria he joined True Vine Primitive Baptist Church and became an active member and Deacon within the Ministry.  Deacon Barker also served as the president of the Pastors Aide and Men’s Fellowship Ministry.  His church family was his local family and community.  Reuben peacefully went to be with the Lord on June 10, 2020.

Reuben is survived by two Aunts, Thelma Arbor of Magnolia, Arkansas and Sylvia Arbor-Pickett of Harvey, Illinois, and a host of cousins, other relatives and many devoted friends. He will be missed by many and always remembered in the hearts of his loved ones.
