Purvis M Smallwood

Purvis M. Smallwood Jr. passed away on Wednesday October 4th, 2023, at home surrounded by family. Purvis was born February 16th, 1948, to the late Purvis and Ernestine Smallwood.

He received his education through Elyria City Schools. He was employed by US Steel and General Motors, but his passion was doing lawn care and odd jobs with close friends. 

On April 14th, 2023, he married his long-time soul mate Mary of 27 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and really enjoyed spending time with his family during the holiday seasons and while vacationing. He also loved taking his grandchildren on hikes and shopping trips. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Purvis is survived by his wife Mary, sons: Jason Corn, Anthony Lorenzo both of Lorain, Jason Jackson of Florida, Ronnie May of Alabama, Daughters: LaRhonda Kimbrough and Eugenia Jackson both of Lorain; Sisters: Ernestine Lopes of Elyria, Lessie Smallwood, Anna Smallwood both of Lorain, Emily Burt of Sheffield, Saundra Alston of Oberlin, Sabrina Jones of Elyria, Gail Horn of Michigan, Brother Purvie Smallwood of Elyria and many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his father Purvis M. Smallwood Sr., Mother Ernestine O. Smallwood (nee Brown), Brothers William C. Smallwood, Michael A. Smallwood and a sister Ligoria A. Bean. 

There will be a celebration of life held on Thursday October 12th, 2023, from 3p-6p located at Carter Funeral Home 3001 Elyria Ave Lorain, OH 44055.

Thank you for celebrating the life of our loved one in lieu of a traditional repast, there will not be a reception following the funeral service.
