Peter Derrick Mathis

Peter Derrick Mathis was born on April 22,1957 in Lorain, Ohio and passed away peacefully in Columbus, Ohio on October 26,2024.

Peter enjoyed telling a great story for hours and made you laugh with his infectious laughter. Peter enjoyed teaching lessons that he had learned over the years and would state “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth”. He would also say when you responded back to these stories, “now you got it”. He enjoyed motorcycles, old cars (Gran Torino), and was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan. He loved barbecuing on the grill for his family events and loved a good game of bowling.

Peter leaves to cherish in his memory wife, Robin (Heston) Mathis; Sons, Peter (Roberta)Heston, Howard Heston and daughter, Joy Heston. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren that he loved dearly and1 great granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother; Selby (Wade) Mathis, and sisters; Diane Mathis, Vedriane Voorhies, a host of nieces, nephews, his brother from another mother Jose Tijerina, and other relatives & friends

He was preceded in death by his father, Elder Pastor Charles L. Mathis, mother, Rosa Mae Mathis; brothers, Charles (Chuck) L. Mathis Jr., Theodore (Teddy) Mathis, Martin (Marty) Mathis, James (Jimmy) Mathis, Ricky Mathis and Lemuel Voorhies; sisters, Sheryl Mathis, Susan Croft, and Mary Mathis.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday November 5th, 2024, from 10am -12pm with a celebration of life to begin at 12pm. Services will be held at Carter Funeral Home 127 W Bridge St Elyria, OH 44035.
