Michael James Harris

Michael James Harris, 61, transitioned to his Heavenly home on Sunday, November 20,2022 following a brief illness. He spent his last few months at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain, Ohio. Michael was the only child born to his parents, Richard and Phyllis (Francis) Harris who emphasized love and strong family values.

From an early age, Michael enjoyed spending time with his maternal grandfather, Cyrus Francis, who took him to Sunday School and church at Second Baptist Church in Lorain.  Michael attended Lorain Public Schools and graduated from Admiral King High School in 1979. Following high school, Michael attended and graduated from DeVry University in Columbus, Ohio where he excelled in the Technology field.

Following graduation, Michael worked as a Technical Product Manager at Adelphia Cable and later held the same Position at Spectrum Cable in Elyria for over 40 years.

Michael was the proud and loving father of one son, his “name sake” Mycal Harris II, who was affectionately gifted the name, Part 2, by Michael’s mother Phyllis.  He was a private young man who was well loved by all who knew him. He maintained a special bond with a small group of childhood friends who called themselves the “Fab Four” as they continued a friendship from elementary school through adulthood.

Michael loved motorcycles and he had many over the years and he loved to ride!! He also enjoyed traveling—starting from when he was just a toddler, and he would spend several weeks every summer traveling with his Dad to Alabama to visit family. Michael also enjoyed bowling, roller skating and dancing (ballroom, no less).  And Michael was proficient at all of these sports.

Michael was a soft-spoken, gentle young man who lived life to the fullest. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Harris, his maternal grandparents, Cyrus and Jennie (Wheeler) Francis, and his paternal grandparents, Willie and Magnolia Harris. Michael leaves to mourn his passing, his father Richard Harris, Lorain, his son “Part 2”, Columbus, Ohio, his grandson Malachi, Columbus, Ohio, Special friends, Martha Harris, Oberlin, Adrienne Morrow Harris, Elyria, and Nancy Ammons, Columbus, Ohio as well as many, many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Colleagues and, of course the “Fab Four”.

Friends may call 10am until time of service at 11am on Monday November 28,2022 at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 2160 Reeves Ave. Lorain, Ohio.
