Michael L Artis Jr.

Michael (Mike) Artis, Jr. (52) of Lorain and formerly of Cleveland, died unexpectedly on March 29, 2021 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Lorain.  Mike was the beloved son of Michael Artis, Sr. and Theresa Artis of Cleveland.  He was born in Cleveland on Father’s Day, June 16, 1968, and affectionately called “Lil Mike” and “Pie-Face” by his aunts and uncles. He attended Cleveland City Schools and Shaw High School. Mike had a passion for driving cars. In his younger years, he enjoyed auto detailing for local automobile dealerships. He especially loved to cook and host barbeques for family and close friends. Mike was a talented artist and could draw great caricatures. He was soft-spoken, kind and a good friend. Mike resided in the Lorain area for several years and was married to Joyce Artis (Gibson), also of Lorain.

Mike is survived by his parents, Michael L. Artis, Sr. and Theresa Artis of Cleveland; his loving wife of eleven years Joyce Artis of Lorain; his sons, whom he was very proud of, Devin Michael Artis of Parma and Brandon Thompson of Parma; his stepchildren Jordan, Alexis, and Christian Harkless; his dearest grandchildren, Josiah, Zoe, Bryson, Junior, Jenna, and Micah; his mentor and big brother, Richard Starks of New Orleans; his younger sister, Tiffany Artis of Cleveland Heights; stepmother, Cathy Artis of Cleveland Hts,  many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; along with numerous extended family and friends. 

Mike was preceded in death by his older sister, Thea Ferrell (Starks); his maternal grandmother, Claire Wright; and other relatives that have gone on before him.   

Family and Friends will be received on Thursday, April 8, 2021 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel/Lorain, 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain, Ohio. A “Walk-Thru” visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. “The Celebration of Life” led by Apostle Janice Roberts of Devine Destiny Christian Fellowship will follow immediately after. Social distancing and masks are required.
