Mattie L. Bright, 82, of Elyria, Ohio transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home to reside with her heavenly father on May 13, 2020. Mattie was born on March 5, 1938 to the late Johnson Dial Sr. and Rubie Lee Hudson Dial in Myrtlewood, Al. She lived in Mobile, Al. with late husband William Bright until she moved to Elyria in 1968. Mattie accepted Christ at an early age.
After moving to Ohio she joined Unity Missionary Baptist Churc34567890-[]
?h under the leadership of the late Pastor Richard Murray. She served as Asst. Choir director, usher board member, building fund chairperson, head of culinary ministry, chairperson of the pass it on bread ministry, membership clerk, chairperson of the Pastor’s aid and Sunday school teacher. Mattie was known for cooking and feeding the sick and shut in.
She was employed at Elyria Memorial Hospital and General Motors until the time of retiring in 1986 with a disability after being hurt on the job. Then she started her career at WDLW 1380AM Radio in 1993 as a Receptionist. Then becoming a Religious Announcer until her untimely death.
She was a member of the NAACP, Lorain County Ushers and Nurses Union. She was also a member of the Sonlight Gospel Singers and Radio announcer for the Friendly Promoter Club as well as the Secretary. She sang in the Gospel choir, Senior Choir. She received a number of certificates of recognition from different organizations throughout Lorain County. She also received the Key to the City of Dothan, Alabama from Joe Clark.
Mattie enjoyed spending time with her family, Cooking, Bowling, Gardening and Traveling with her daughter Catherine. She was a die-hard sports fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavs. She enjoyed playing on the Wii with her great granddaughter Amani. Most importantly worship services and bible study are integral parts of her life.
Cherishing her memory she leaves her daughters Connie Bright of Elyria, Cynthia (Marcus) Harris of Akron, Wanda Bright (Allen) of Akron. Six grandchildren Selanya Page of Elyria, Monica Pace, LaTonya Pace, Jamal (TaNisha) Pace of Detroit, Mich, Marcus Harris and Ashley Harris of Akron OH. Four great-granddaughters SaNiya Pace, Amani Page, Milani Harris, Miliiyah Harris. Sisters Prettie Crim of Elyria, Velma (Donald) Tribue of Dothan, Al. Brothers Leonard (Juanita) Dial of Mobile Al, Johnson (Melberta) Dial of Lakewood Washington, James Earl (Michelle) Jackson of Raleigh NC, Sister-in-law Joanne Jackson Milwaukee, WI. Adopted grandson Joaquin Page of Elyria, Adopted daughters Paquita Williams of North Ridgeville and Patricia Newton of Elyria; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and a multitude of special friends.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents Johnson Dial Sr. and Rubie Jackson; daughter Catherine Bright Pace; brothers Jack Dial and Willie Earl Jackson; granddaughter Maya Bright.
