On Thursday, April 29, 2021, Martin (Peter) Alston, loving  husband and father of 10 children passed away from this life at the age of 101.
Martin Alston was born on September 6, 1919 in Choctaw County Edna, Alabama to Creamus Alston and Allie Mae Martin.  He was inducted into the United States Army on January 6, 1943 at Fort Bennings, Georgia. He fought in World War II and served in Papua New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. His citations are as follows: the APTO Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and One Bronze Star. He also received a World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged from service on December 16, 1945.

Upon returning to Ward, Alabama he met the love of his life, Myra Wilson. They married on September 7, 1946 and this 73 year union produced 10 children.

As a young man he moved to Elyria, Ohio and worked at the Elyria Foundry. He then worked at Yost’s construction until retirement at age 65. For over 50 years he was a  member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America and Local Union 758.

Martin accepted the Lord as his personal savior at an early age. Later in life he joined Unity Baptist church and served as a Deacon. During the church anniversary on September 17, 2017 at the age of 98 he was honored as the oldest member of their congregation.

In his free time Martin enjoyed barbecuing, watching Westerns, Christian television, and reading his bible.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory : one son; Fredrick (Brandi) Alston of Elyria; six daughters, Bonnie Alston, Juanita Alston, Shirley Keith, Matilda (Charles) Inman of Elyria, Cynthia Thorpe of Lorain, Barbara (James) Bryant of Tuscaloosa; sister, Dorothy Johnson of Pennington, Alabama; 33 grandchildren and 75 great-grandchildren and 39 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and host of relatives and friends.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife: Myra Alston; one daughter, Clemmie Alston;  two sons Michael and Charles Alston;  parents, Walter Creamus and Allie Mae Martin; two brothers, Cass Alston and Joe Frank Witherspoon ; two sisters Emma Chaney and Matilda Alston-Jackson; five great grandchildren, Michael Cannon, Jamaica Alston,  Jaleel Woods, Alexis and Da Shawn Lewis.

Family and Friends may call on Saturday, May 8,2021 in the Unity Baptist Church, Fuller Rd., Elyria, OH. A walk-through will begin at 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The "Celebration of Life" be start at 11:00AM. Burial at Resthaven, 3700 Center Rd./Avon. Please wear a mask and social distance.
