Margaret (Peggy) J. Baker, age 76, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025, in Vermilion, Ohio. Born in Xenia, Ohio, Peggy lived a full and purposeful life centered on family, education, and service to others.
Peggy was the daughter of the late James Buford Cunningham and Clara Belle Cochraham Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence Baker, and her brothers Lee Caldwell Cunningham and Roger Luther Cunningham.
She is survived by her biological daughter, Mary Charlene Bradford (Errick Huston) Dodson of Tennessee. Peggy also leaves behind her cherished siblings: Carl McDonald “Donald” (Catherine Elizabeth) of Wilberforce, Ohio, and Patricia Ann Cunningham Stockton of Sidney, Ohio; nieces: Teresa M (Archie) Tyrone of Edmond, Oklahoma, Lisa L (David) McCraney of Jackson, Tennessee, Brenda L Stockton-McNeal of Trotwood, Ohio, Belinda A Stockton-Reynolds of Sidney, Ohio, nephews: Tracy M Cunningham of Memphis, Tennessee, James “Tony” A (Cyndi) Cunningham of Sidney, Ohio, Robert F Stockton III of Trotwood, Ohio, Bradley E (Carrie) Stockton of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Byron S Stockton of Sidney, Ohio and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Peggy was lovingly known as “Grandma” to her grandchildren: Amber (Nigel) Fulton and Derrick Huston, both of North Carolina; Autumn Dodson of Georgia; and Trey Dodson and Brad Huston, both of Tennessee. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Enam and Noelle Fulton, of North Carolina.
A lifelong educator, Peggy dedicated her career to shaping young minds as an English teacher at Lorain High School in Lorain, Ohio. She earned her master’s degree in education from Wright State University and her bachelor’s degree in education from Central State University. An avid reader, Peggy loved learning and shared that passion generously with her students, family, and friends. She was known for offering thoughtful, loving advice to those who sought her wisdom.
A visitation will be held on Monday December 01, 2025, at 10am with a Celebration of Life to begin at 11am located at Carter Funeral Home 3001 Elyria Ave Lorain, OH 44055.
