Lula Mae Capers (née Gaines), born November 7, 1950, in Nanafalia, Alabama, passed away on September 9, 2024, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Lula graduated from Sumter County Training High School in Livingston, Alabama, in 1969 and moved to Lorain, Ohio, in 1970, where she lived until her passing. She attended Lorain County Community College and the JVS Training Center, and over the years, worked as an STNA, bartender, cook, and caretaker.
Lula leaves behind her loving siblings: David Gaines (Barbara), of Florida, Bessie V Cox, of Lorain, Madeline Johnson (Mc), of Elyria, and Ollie M Lake, of Lorain.
Lula was the neighborhood mother of many, but she leaves behind her children: Angela M. Gaines, Joseph A Gaines Sr., Sharon L Capers, Tanita L Capers (Fussy), Tomika Y Capers - Armelin (Corey N Armelin Sr,.), Sharita Y Capers, and a bonus daughter Jessica Anderson, all of Lorain. Also, her grandchildren: Cierra Rosario, Le’Asia Gaines, An’Toinae Rancifer, Darryl Hill Jr, Dezshanae Seagers, Darrion Hill, Dymias Seagers, Joseph Gaines Jr, Corey Armelin Jr, Jaymius Gaines, Ci’Ana Armelin, Nizaiah Anderson, Ma’Kiya Thomas ,Demarriay Fuller Jr, Jeniro Brown Jr, Mekhi Thomas, Mallakhi Thomas, Cleon Phillips, Jaymiere Phillips. Great Grandchildren: Maurice Loppe Jr, Zaria Calhoun, and Jada Jenkins. She has a host of nieces and nephews. Special niece Cassandra Y Gaines.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur L and Lidy B Gaines (nee Harris), and brothers Jerry Gaines, Clarence Gaines, niece Lody B Gaines, son Michael J Capers, and Brother-in-law Clarence Cox.
Lula’s celebration of life will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave, Lorain, OH. A viewing will be held Wednesday September 18th, 2024, from 10am-11am, with services to follow at 11am.
