Leroy Davis Obituary

Leroy Davis 69, transitioned to eternal rest on December 8th, 2024, at University Hospital of Elyria in Elyria, OH. Leroy was born November 26th, 1955, to Mary L. (Davis) Dixon and Joe Jackson Sr.

Leroy attended Murray Ridge Schools in Elyria, OH and began working for the Murray Ridge center in 1974 where he had various jobs including working at Oberlin College cafeteria and being a part of the Murray Ridge Center cleaning crew. Later Leroy started working in the Centers workshop until Covid in 2020. Leroy was a super athlete and participated in sports every chance he got and was always a great teammate. He exceeded in baseball, soccer, bowling, volleyball, basketball, swimming and track. He was inducted into the Murray Ridge Special Olympics Hall of Fame in 2014 for basketball and 2022 for volleyball. Leroy was awarded for bowling by his coaches for his friendliness and high scores in bowling over the course of 50 years.

Leroy was an avid sports fan of the Guardians, The Cleveland Cavaliers, The Browns, Ohio State and a super fan of all sports in Elyria, especially Elyria High and Elyria West High Schools. His favorite hang outs are Giant Eagle and Golden Coral. He enjoyed scratching off lottery tickets and riding his bike. Leroy was often seen dancing and singing to the blues. He was such a fun-loving guy. Leroy was baptized at an early age while living in Detroit, MI.

Leroy will be sadly missed by his sisters: Barbara Ann Davis of Elyria, Carol Jackson Arnett (Roy) of Lorain, Marnele Jackson of Elyria, brother William Jackson of Lorain, an Aunt Leatha Davis, special niece Tamika LaShae James and great nieces Aiyana Smith, and Amoni Smith of Elyria, and a host of other family, friends, and special friends.

Leroy is preceded in death by Mother Mary L. Dixon and Father Joe Jackson Sr, Maternal grandparents Lucille Davis and Oscar Davis (Poppa Davis), paternal grandparents Ezell Jackson and Joe Jackson Sr, sister Patricia McGhee, brothers: Geoffrey Jackson and Edward “Eddie” Jackson, and niece LaShawn Deprey Austin.

Visitation will be held on Friday December 27th, 2024, at 10am with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11am located at Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church 632 West River N. Elyria, OH

Rev. Calvin Currie will be officiating. Burial will be private.
