Leonard Douglas Hill was born on April 1st, 1955, in Belvidere, Tennessee. Leonard was the fourteenth of seventeen children born to the late William Taft Sr. and Ida Bell Hill. Leonard was educated in the Elyria City School system and graduated from Ohio State with a degree in Horticulture.
Leonard became a member of the Elyria Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Jim Gordon, attending services with his brother Harry before relocating to Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, Leonard helped create a community garden for the children in the Linden area, he volunteered at the Salvation Army along with various organizations.
Leonard is survived by his children, Jason Taft Hill (Brittany), Mackencey Scott Hill both of Elyria; Charlla Boughton of Columbus; mother of their sons Teinchai of Elyria; eight grandchildren: Jaylen Hill, Analiese Hill, Camron all of Lorain, Jay’Cier Hill, Briella Hill both of Elyria, Leon Boughton, Dorrien Boughton, Tatyanna Boughton all of Columbus; five Great- grandchildren, nine siblings; Willa Dee Brown, William Taft Hill Jr.(Claudette), Barbara Jean Brown, James Freeman Hill Sr., Jean Marie Hill all of Elyria, Ruth Ann Fish (Calvin) of Lorain, Earl Hill of Marion, Cecelia Hill of Columbus, and Fred Edward Hill (Danyel) of Louisville, Kentucky, an additional sister-in-law Janice Hill and brother-in-law Randy Gary, God-daughter Schre’ Hill of Lorain, a special friend/brother George O’Dell of Elyria, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Leonard was preceded in death by his mother Ida Bell Hill, father William Taft Hill Sr., eight siblings: Gladys Louise Jones, Janice Faye Johnson (Howard), Larry Hill, Linda Gayle Gary, Thomas Walter Hill, Harry Hill (Janis), Donald Eugene Hill, and Clifton Taylor, and a brother-in-law William Franklin Brown.
A memorial to celebrate the life of Leonard will be held on Saturday May 18th, 2024, at 11am at The Lake & Walnut Church of Christ 1101 Lake Ave Elyria, Ohio.
