Sister Lee Vora Carlton 80, of Elyria, Ohio, made her transition to be with the Lord, on Saturday, June 6, 2020, at her son's Toney Griffin’s home, where she was surrounded by some of her children and some grandchildren.
Sister Carlton was born in Elaine, Arkansas on June 14, 1939. She was the daughter of the late Erma L. Banks, and the late Samuel R. Mims, and was later adopted by George A. Gibson. Lee Vora confessed her hope in the Lord at an early age, at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Elaine, Arkansas, under the leadership of Rev. Atkinson, where she did not send her children to church she took them! She was a member there until moving to Ohio in 1977. Where she later became a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church of Elyria, Ohio. She became an avid member and enjoyed being in the presence of The Lord.
Lee Vora grew up in Elaine, Arkansas, on a farm as a Sharecropper. She attended Elaine Industrial School. As an adult, she returned to school to obtain her GED at Lakeview High School and went on to college to study nursing. She worked as an STNA for many years, until she became a Certified Daycare Provider, while running a food trailer (Carlton's Ribs) in Elyria with her late husband Nathanueal (Redd) Carlton. Lee Vora loved cooking, fishing, singing, sewing, writing poems, traveling, especially traveling, and she loved, loved, the Lord and her family.
Lee Vora was preceded in death by her husband Nathanuel (Redd) Carlton her adopted father George Gibson and her mother Erma Gibson-Grant; and her father Samuel R. Mims, her son George A. Arnett a great granddaughter Alace'Antia (Lacey) Snyder, two brothers Charles and James Gibson, eight sisters Cora Mims, Carrie Mims, Pearline Mims, Erma Robinson, Georgia Ethington, Betty Gibson, Vileara Jordan and Bernice Tye, one uncle Ivory Gibson and one niece, Tresha Wilson.
Lee Vora (Lavora, Vora, Sua, Moma, Ma, Mommy, Aunt Vora, Gramma, Suga-Foot, Mrs. Carlton, Sis Carlton) leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Erma Arnett, Roy Arnett (Carol), Josephine Overall, Carla Nolen (Anderson), Kathy Currie, Janice Parson (George) Toney Griffin, Charles Irvin Griffin (Laurie), Erica Griffin, Natalie Scott (Rodney) Valarie Nixon, Renee Carlton-Berry (Warren) all of Ohio. A Host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, of which all was special to her in their own way; two sisters Sandra Henry (Jerry), of West Helena, Arkansas and Lolita Fox-Sheperd of Chicago, Illinois. Stepdaughters Wanda Carlton (Jean) of Detroit, Michigan and a host stepchildren, she loved as her own. Two aunts Dr. Lavern Scott (Pete) of West Helena, Arkansas, and Viola Watson, of Elaine, Arkansas, a Sister-in-law Shirley Starks of Oakland, California; two special friends Jayne and Wayne Stolks (neighbor) of Elyria, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, acquaintance and friends; and a very special granddaughter, T’Niya (Nini) Berry and Grandson Nathanueal (Chi Boo) Carlton.
Friends may call 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 16, 2020 in Church of the North Coast, 4125 Leavitt Rd, Lorain, OH. Pastor Diana Lindsey will be the Eulogist. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the funeral home will be following specific guidelines to ensure the safety of all visitors. We encourage all visitors to wear face covering. Burial in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. MUST WEAR MASK
