August 4, 1933 ~ July 21, 2021 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Lazell Powell Obituary

Lazelle was born on Aug 4, 1933 to Claudie and Cora Gordon in Sherrill AR.  She accepted Christ at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Altheimer, AR. Lazelle moved to Ohio 68 years ago to help her older sister Mary and her family. She was a faithful member of Mt Zion Baptist Church, Oberlin, OH.

Lazelle retired as first cook at Oberlin College after 33 years of service. After retirement she was a care giver for many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was past President of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending time with family. 

She is survived by husband William Powell Jr. (32 years); daughters, Joyce Edwards, Deseree Caver (David), Margie Holloway (Grady) of Elyria, OH., Davida Franklin of Detroit, MI, Lisa Pool(Alaric), Rhonda Powell of Lorain, OH, Stacey Smith (John) of Chicago,IL; sons, Adrian Powell of Detroit, MI, Darwin Isom, of Oberlin, OH; sister: Mary Wynn-Mayle of Oberlin, OH; sister -in -law:  Josie Gordon of North Little Rock, AR; 16 Grandchildren, a host of great and great great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Claudie Gordon Sr. and mother-Cora Hicks Gordon; daughter, Elaine Michelle Quattlebaum; brothers,  Claudie Gordon Jr., OT Gordon, Alton Gordon and John Gordon; sisters: Henrietta Jones , Margarite Newman, Beatrice McGray; grandchildren. Alphonse Duane Edwards, Kasacha Edwards, Mkela Patterson.

Family and Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, from 10:00AM until 11:00 will be a walk through and the “Celebration of Life” will follow at 11:00AM in the MT. Zion Baptist Church, 47 Locust St, Oberlin. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Rd, Avon, OH.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair; Perhaps you sent a floral piece, if so we saw it there;  Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say; Perhaps you were not here at all, just thought of us this day.  Whatever you did to console our hearts, we thank you so much whatever the part.
