Lawrence Lumpkin Obituary
Lawrence Lumpkin 86, of Lorain passed away Sunday September 17,2023 at Autumn Aegis following a lengthy illness. He was born May 29,1937 in Lorain Ohio. He graduated from Brookside High School in 1955. In 1960 he briefly served in the US army. He retired from USS Steel formally named Lorain Tubular in December 1999 where he worked in the blast furnace for over 30 years.
Lawrence gave his life to the Lord and was baptized and filled with the holy ghost under Elder Jesse L. Matthews at Greater Christ Temple in Elyria in the early 60’s. He was also a member of a singing group called brother 4 where he sang base. Lawrence Loved the Lord and served as a deacon at Cathedral of Praise for over 50 years. He was faithful, dedicated and believed in supporting the ministry. His favorite hobbies included going to Jamies Flea market, he was a great bargain hunter. He loved old-fashioned cars and loved to attend car shows. He also loved good food and desserts.
Lawrence Leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years Roseann, and children; Tony (Patricia) of Georgia; Kertus (Tomeka) of Lorain, James Posey of (CA), Tracey Williams (CA), and Shakeeta (John) Winborn of Lorain, OH; two brothers Charles Lumpkin of Portland Oregon, Freddy Lumpkin of Lorain; sister Margaret Scott of Lorain, Ten grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Special friends include Robert St. Clair (Classmate) Charlie, Carlos, Willie, and James (former co-workers).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr., and Jessie Lumpkin; sisters Dorothy Lumpkin-Thomas, and Bonella Lumpkin-Gray, his brother Robert Lee Lumpkin; his sisters Ruth Kemp, Annie Lumpkin, his brothers; Floyd Lumpkin; Joe Lumpkin and Roy Lumpkin.
Viewing hours will be Monday September 25, 2023, from 9am-11am until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Cathedral of Praise 4545 Elyria Ave. Lorain, with Bishop Melvin Brown officiating. The burial will be in Ridge Hill Cemetery, Lorain, Arrangements by Carter Funeral Home 3001 Elyria Ave, Lorain, OH 44055.
