Lavada Maben

My Journey

Mother Lavada Maben was born October 4, 1937, in Brownsville, Tennessee, to the union of the late Clarence and Florence Gause went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. She was the 9th child born to her parents.

Lavada was raised in a Christian home. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized.

Lavada was educated in the Dyersburg Public School System and participated in Basketball and was a Majorette and graduated High School at the age of 16

In the year of 1954 at the age of 17 she relocated to Elyria, Ohio and united with the Bethany Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard Murray.

In the year of 1967 she became a charter member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership Rev. Richard Murray where she served faithfully until her passing.

Lavada was instrumental in organizing the Junior and Youth Usher Board, she was the advisor of the  Youth Ministry for over 40 years. She served as the Superintendent of the Sunday School for many years, she was also President of Misson Circle No. 1.

She established The (BTU) Baptist Training Union, and was President of the Pastor’s Aid for over 30 years. She served as Superintendent for 2 terms of the Sandusky Sub-District.  

She was employed with the Elyria Schools System.

She united in Holy Matrimony to Bobby Maben on February 14, 1957. To this union seven children we born: Sandra, Pamela, Karen, Dennis, Laron, Rhonda and Collette.

She enjoyed spending with the Lord and her family

Lavada was preceded in death by her husband; Bobby, sons; Dennis and LaRon, her granddaughter Ammal S. Gardner and siblings. 

Lavada leaves to cherish her memory her daughters: Daughters, Sandra A. Maben, Pamela R. (Pastor D. Anthony Bohles), Karen L. (Pastor Willie A. Gardner, Jr.), Rhonda L. (Donald Frazier), Collette V. (Pastor Joel DiAngi). 27 grandchildren , 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

The Family will receive friends on Friday October 24, 2025, at The Unity Missionary Baptist Church 326 Fuller Road Elyria, OH 44035 from 10:00 A. M. until the time of The Celebration of Life at 11:00 A. M. Dr. Willie A. Gardner, Jr., Senior Pastor, Eulogist, Dr. D. Anthony Bohles, Officiating. Interment Brookdale Cemetery.
