LaRue Anthony Whitfield, 78, of Elyria, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Ames Family Hospice Home, Westlake.
He was a lifelong resident and a 1966 graduate of Elyria High School. He had worked for Nehi Bottling Company and Invacare Corporation.
LaRue was very stylish. His favorite past times were watching western movies and listening to 93.1 FM. He enjoyed spending time with his nephews and attending at family gatherings and functions.
He is survived by his sisters, Bonnie (Jose) Santos, Jean Armstrong and Martha (aka Babe) Whitfield, all of Elyria; niece and caretaker, Nikki Jackson of Elyria; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and close friends, Craig Williams and Lorene Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Foster Whitfield in 1992 and Elmira Whitfield in 1987; his sisters, Frankie Fields, Lorraine Whitfield, Mary Helen Whitfield, Janice Whitfield, Joanne Bush, Ruth Jackson, Juanita Martin and Sylvia Rivera; brothers include Louis Fields, Charles Fields, Eddie Fields and Robert Fields.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service at 12 noon Saturday, March 21, at Carter Funeral Chapel, 127 W. Bridge St., Elyria. His cousin, Elder Herbert Ross, will officiate.
