Joseph Shropshire Obituary

Joseph Shopshire of Elyria passed away at the age of 80 on April 22nd, 2024, at the Avon Place Nursing Home in Avon, OH. Born in Heath Spring, SC February 11th, 1944, he was the second eldest son to James and Mary Evans Shropshire.

Joseph accepted Christ at an early age and joined Cedar Rock Baptist Church. He moved to Brooklyn, New York and worked as a custodian at Hunter College and later moved to Elyria, OH in 1976.

He was united in holy matrimony to Ruthie Mae Brown in 1978 and they together share one son Joseph Shopshire Jr. Joseph has one daughter Delores Shropshire and two stepsons Mchael A Brown and Larry D. Brown.

Joseph worked for York International for 25 years cutting steel and operating the crane. He retired from York in 2000. Joseph loved to fish, garden, hunt, and barbecue.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 56 years Ruthie Shropshire and son Joseph Shropshire Jr (Bianca), stepson Larry D. Brown, daughter Delores A Shropshire and a sister Geraldine Clinton, special cousin/friend Maxine Harris of Buffalo, NY, five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father James Shropshire, his mother Mary Shropshire, three brothers Robert James Shropshire, Roosevelt Shropshire, and Hayward Lee Shropshire all of Heath Spring, SC and stepson Michael A Brown.

A viewing will be held on Monday April 29th, 2024, at Unity Baptist Church 326 Fuller Rd Elyria, OH at 10am and a celebration of life to follow at 11am.

Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery.
