Joseph Harvey Obituary

Joseph Gene Harvey was born on March 12, 1950 in Elyria, Ohio to Kathryn Harvey and Herbert Arnold, Sr.. He lived in Elyria his entire life, graduating from Elyria High School in 1969. In 1979 he joined the United States Armed Forces as a Reservist in the National Guard. Geno, as he was so affectionately called, loved basketball, yardwork, and spending time with his family. He always had a vibrant smile on his face and a joke to tell. He was full of positivity, constantly there to lend a helping hand, sound advice, and encouragement for all. He was employed by Ohio Edison over 15 years as an Electrician and later transitioned to NASA, serving as a Certified Crane Inspector. He loved his job and his coworkers loved working alongside him. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church of Elyria. Gene leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 35 years, Nancy (nee Williams); two daughters, Stephanie Young (Keith) and April Harvey; a son, Rashgene Gazi-White (Duane); two grandsons, Keith and Kevin Young; sisters Harriet Morgan, Carolyn Arnold, Brenda Conley, and Sandra Kimbro (Nathaniel); and brothers Herbert Arnold, James Harvey, and Michael Arnold. He is also survived by his extended family of Nadine James, Moses “MC” Johnson, Lisa Shannon-Stringer, and caretakers Arrianna Horton, Margo, Steve and Troy Vincent, and Shannon Williams, along with a host of family and friends. He will be joining his mother Kathryn Harvey, his father Herbert Arnold, Sr., sister Toni Gilmore, and brothers Elbert Harvey and Gary Arnold in Heaven. Gene will be severely missed by his family and friends.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2019 at Unity Baptist Church, 326 Fuller Road in Elyria. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019 beginning at 11 a.m., also to be held at Unity Baptist Church.
