Johnnie was born on December 13, 1942, to Alonza and Margaret Wilson in Pelham, Alabama. She departed this life on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.
Johnnie confessed Christ at an early age she was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church where she was church trustee until her health started failing. She graduated from York West End High School in York, Alabama on May 27, 1960.
Johnnie was married to Ellis Capers until they both passed away five days apart, she worked at Kobe Steel, formerly US Steel for over 30 years until retirement. Until her later years, when her health and mobility changed, one Johnnie’s favorite past time was bowling, she was inducted into the Elyria Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1989, she was also awarded the female bowler of the year for association several times, she was a member of the gospel group The Taylor Singers.
Johnnie leaves to cherish her memory her son Derrick (Janise) Wilson of Meridian, MS. and daughter Lasonya Wilson of Cleveland, OH. one brother Robert (Stephanie) Wilson of Elyria, OH. one sister Barbara Graves of Jacksonville, FL. Six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and host of relatives and friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by; her husband Ellis Capers, parents Alonza and Margaret Wilson, a daughter Teresa Malik, six sisters Myra Alston, Bessie Rodgers, Earline Capers, Annette Brown, Bessie Johnson and Lucille Rembert, five brothers Robert Wilson, Alonza Wilson, Mose Wilson, Joe Daniel Wilson, Robert Ellis Wilson and Charley Wilson.
Family and friends may visit on Monday December 27, 2021, at 11:00am until 12:00pm “Home Going Services” followed at 12:00pm at Unity Missionary Baptist Church, 326 Fuller Rd, Elyria, OH 44035
