John "Wooten" Ellington Obituary

Mr.. John Arthur “Wooten” Ellington was born on December 18, 1950 to Mrs. Louise (Ellington) Binion, and affectionately taken in as his own by Mr. Johnnie C. Binion (stepfather). After a lengthy illness John, peacefully transitioned from this life on June 26, 2021 surrounded by his Family.During his youth John attended the Glorious Faith Tabernacle Church, in Oberlin, Ohio, under the leadership of the late Bishop Oney Fitzpatrick, Sr. John attended Oberlin City Schools for most of his schooling, where he enjoyed playing FootBall, Basketball and Baseball. John later received his High School Diploma from Mansfield High School, in Mansfield, Ohio, in 1970.   After graduation John began a career in construction.  He continued to work in the construction industry until retirement.Over 40 years ago, John met Miss. Ruby L Witherspoon and their journey of love began.  During this journey came 2 heartbeats, Demetrius  Andre’Co, and Chel’ Cee Mo N’ique.  After several  years together John and Ruby decided it was time to join as one and married on  June 28, 1997.

In his spare time John loved to fish, read, play cards and spend time with his grandchildren. John was very much into politics, world news and sports being a die heart Cleveland Browns Fan.  John’s sense of humor would lighten any mood and lift spirits. John was very loving, compassionate and honest.  In the eyes of his children he was their hero!

John Arthur is survived by his wife of 24 years , Ruby L. Witherspoon-Ellington, of Elyria, Ohio, Son, Demetrius A. Ellington (Erica), and  Daughter Chel’cee M. Ellington, both of Elyria, Ohio.  Brother, Raymond Elington, of Berea, Ohio, Sister, Bobby Jean Binion, of Oberlin, Ohio, Sister, Delores (Binion) Williams, of Columbus, Ohio, Brother, Terry Binion, of Hinesville, Georgia and Special Cousin-Sister Sheila Darden, of Cincinnati, Ohio.Grand Children: Zhyire Bodiford, Zhion Bodiford, Lamarea Roldan, Demetrius Ellington Jr, Dezarea Ellington, Marzi’ Cody,  My’loni Graham, MaJ’esty Graham, Lovell Graham and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Louise (Ellington) Binion and (Step Father) Johnnie C Binion Maternal grandparents, Warren and Leola (Thomas) Ellington, (Step Grandparents), Crawford Sr. and Nancy Binion Sr.  Sister, Patty Binion, Brother Richard Binion, Special Cousin-Sister Lynnett Hill Special Aunt, Lucille (Ellington) Thomas and Uncle John Thomas. 

Family and Friends will be received on Monday July 12, 2021 at Mt Zion Baptist Church 47 Locust St, Oberlin, OH 44074. Walk through will start from 10:00 AM until 11:00AM and the “Celebration of Life” will follow at 11:00 AM. Elder Jamal Robinson will officiate.  John will be laid to his physical resting place at Westwood Cemetery 455 Morgan St, Oberlin, OH 44074. Repast Weill follow immediately after Burial at The Mount Zion Fellowship Hall (Across from the Church) Mask during Services are required.
