John Jay Thompson, Jr. was born on August 30, 1952 in Whitfield, AL to the late John Thompson, Sr. and Katie Jane Ward Thompson. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Black Bluff M.B. Church of Whitfield, AL. He attended Kinterbish High School in Kinterbish, AL and then Admiral King High School in Lorain, OH
. After high school, he joined Job Corps and later went to C.A. Fred Technical School, currently known as Shelton State Community College. Finally, he joined The United States Army where he received an honorable discharge. After leaving the Army, he met Betty Ruffin and He had six children.
After he met Velma (Sarah)McDonald and 1 child. On Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center, John, Jr. took his flight home.
John Jay Thompson, Jr. affectionately known as ‘Junior or JJ’ leaves to cherish his memories: His children, Tameka S. Ruffin Thompson, Ocean Springs, MS; John (Rozelta) Straight Thompson, Meridian, MS; Ontego D. (Wendy) Straight Thompson, Newport News, VA; Laquanta D. (Eddie) Tubbs, Carrolton, AL; Quenisha R. (Rickey) Johnson, Tuscaloosa, AL; Latona S, (Reginald) Davis, Aliceville, AL; Rakesha (Craig) Ellington, Livingston, AL; thirty-two grandchildren and one great grandchild; a host of special nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly. Junior leaves to cherish one brother, Orlando (Joyce) Thompson, Sr. and three sisters:
Friends may be received on Saturday, February 20, 2021, in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel/Lorain, 3001 Elyria Ave. A Walk-Thru will begin at 10:00 A.M till 11:00 A.M. The “Celebration of Life’ will begin at 11:00 A.M. Please wear a mask and Social Distance!
Honorable Interment will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Rittman, OH 44270
