We celebrate the life of Joan Natalie Malik (Balogacs) September 3, 1940 – December 27, 2018
Joan (codename “Mumsey”) was the only child of John and Helen (Bubsey) Balogacs. She graduated from Lourdes Academy and the Cooper School of Art which led to an early career as a commercial artist. Married in 1961 to Raymond Steven Malik, she soon gave birth to a daughter and two sons. One of them was her favorite, but we won’t say which one.
Throughout the years she was known for her creativity and her desire to share it with others. Mums taught art classes off and on, ran a successful crafting business called “Heart’s Desire”, and was always working on something for her church or doing crafts with her kids and grandkids.
Mumsey loved the Lord, and she loved her family. Not only the ones related by dna, but those who wandered in and out of her life. Even though she didn’t really cook a whole lot, all were welcome at our table.
We are joyful that she is now reunited with the love of her life, to whom she was married for 54 years. But deeply missing her presence here with us are her three kids – Linda (husband John Shaffer) and her children Andrew, Charlie, Benjamin, Erik, and Beatrice Breidinger, Raymond and his children Amber (husband Justin Rice with their children Grace, Corbin, and Harper), Zack (wife Kate and their 2 children Oliver and Finn), Jordan (wife Amarah), and Daniel and his children, Nick, Logan, and Terrance Malik.
A future memorial gathering is pending, but we invite all who knew and loved this beautiful woman to attend.
