James Arthur Jones Jr.

James Arthur Jones Jr. went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2021. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by his wife and children. 

Jim was born on February 1, 1950 to Jeanette Lee Jones (née Bush) and James Arthur Jones Sr. Jim excelled as an athlete and was offered several full ride college scholarships for football and track. After his 1968 graduation from Elyria High School, Jim married his childhood sweetheart, Laura Jones (née Fox) and they went on to have two beautiful children, Bryan and Shellie/Sheila. Jim worked over 30 years in construction before retiring. He was a member of Oberlin Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and Sidonia Lodge 93. He had a great love for family and a passion for music, hunting, fishing, and grilling his legendary ribs. Jim was a father-figure, role-model, and inspiration to many. His generosity, hospitality, kind-heartedness, and smile that lit up a room will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his lovely wife of 53 years, Laura L Jones (née Fox), son, Bryan K Jones (Tangi), daughter, Sheila M. Hicks (Martin), grandchildren, Jaron R. Hicks (Sienna), Maya A.D. Walker (Josh), Laura/Abby Rice (Michael), Breya K. Jones, Zion J. Hicks, Emmanuel J. White, and Bryan K. Jones II., adopted niece, Mackenzie J.A. Brooks, sisters, Cynthia L. Holloway (Eugene) and Elaine R. Jones (Darrel), brothers, Chester F. Jones (Vera), William B. Jones (Brenda), Stephen L. Jones (Deborah), and Mark A. Jones (Felicia), god-daughter, Nicole M. Johnson (Kartra), six great-grand children (Cameron, Riyan, Jaron Jr, Aiden, Chloe, and Cai) and a host of nieces and nephews. 

James A. Jones Jr. was preceded in death by his father (James A. Jones Sr) and his mother (Jeanette L. Jones).

"A Celebration of Life" will be held on Thursday, September 30th, 2021. Friends and family are welcomed to visit between the hours of 5pm-8pm at The Lodge of New Russia Township at 46300 Butternut Ridge Rd, Oberlin, Ohio 44074.
