James Edward Taylor, 81, transitioned into the arms of the Lord July 8, 2023, at Anchor Lodge Nursing Facility following a lengthy illness. He was born in Winchester, TN, moving to Elyria 76 years ago with his parents Robert and Annie Lou Taylor.
He graduated from Midview High School where he excelled academically as well as in three sports. He received scholarship offers from many colleges in the south in the sports of football, basketball, and track. He decided, due to the unrest of the civil rights movement at that time in the south, that he would stay in Elyria and be the voice of the voiceless, fighting for the civil rights of the people right in his hometown. He later attended the Ohio School of Broadcasting honing his skills for his lifetime love of radio broadcasting. He was Founder and owner of Taylor Broadcasting Company also known as, WJTB 1040 AM serving the community of Northeast Ohio for over 30 years with the motto, “It’s the Spirit that Makes the Difference!”
He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Robin Taylor-Fenn of Elyria, Aretha Taylor-Paydock of Cleveland, Toni Burrell of Colorado Springs, Shemeka Anderson of Richmond Va., Tosha (Dax) Craighead of Elyria, Clechie Craighead and Marca Anderson of Cleveland, 3 sons Jameson Taylor of Cleveland, Roy Craighead of Elyria, Ryan Gilbert of Florida, and a sister Walterine (Edward) Kittrell of Bremerton, WA, and a host of grand and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Deacon Robert J. & Minister Annie Lou Taylor and his brother Albert Lane.
