James Jerome Bryson, 81, of Lorain, Ohio departed this life on December 8, 2023. He was born May 9, 1942, in Fayetteville, Tennessee and was a graduate of West End High School. In the late 1960’s, he moved to Elyria, Ohio and was a member of Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist church for many years where he sang in the choir. He was employed at Midway Mall, ran his own janitorial service, and later retired from Invacare. James enjoyed helping others and volunteered at the American Red Cross until he was unable to do so. An avid collector of Coca Cola memorabilia (which developed from his father’s 65 years of employment at the Coca Cola plant in Fayetteville TN), James was known for his laughter, sense of humor, his love of travel, westerns, playing card games, and especially his love of family, and visiting with family and friends. He simply enjoyed having a good time with those around him, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by children, Regina Shumate of Elyria; Aaron (Monica) of Lewisburg, West Virginia; Schulonda (Todd) Brown of Huger, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; a brother, Randy (Diane) of Waco, Texas; a sister-in-law, Peggy of Dayton, Ohio, numerous nieces and nephews (special nieces Anita Thompson of Grand Prairie, Texas and Cynthia Alston of Paducah, Kentucky); and blessings of friends in Beatrice “Bea” (Bryson) Simpson, James Horton, Ruth Hlasko, and Lisa Keenan.
James was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Minnie Lee (Hampton) Bryson; a daughter, Giovoni Denise Banks; sisters, Mary Gladys Clark and Dorothy Thompson; brothers, Paul, Bobby, and Richard Bryson.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 18th at 5pm at Carter Funeral Home, 127 West Bridge Street, Elyria, Ohio. 44035. Online tributes and condolences can be shared at www.carterfuneralhomesinc.com under his obituary.
