Ivan T Dickerson, 62, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away peace-fully at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Avon Lake, Ohio Tuesday July 13, 2021, following a short battle with cancer. He was born on December 6 1958 in Elyria, Ohio, and graduated from Elyria High School in 1977.
Ivan enlisted in the Navy immediately after graduation and served his country for six years receiving an honorable discharge. After his service was completed with the Navy he completed his Master’s Degree and was employed as a Mental Health/Addiction Counselor in New York and Florida. Known as “Jiven Ivan” “Crumbwell”, “Sir.GQ”, and “My Brudder” to his many friends and family while growing up in Elyria.
He was loved by all and was lots of fun to be with. In New York, his new friends also re-ferred to him Sir G.Q. and he lived there for over 20 years, and then lat-er resided in Florida for 10 years. A talented artist, and a avid reader of books, and loved sports he was also known for his dancing skills, and his fashion skills, these were just a few of the passions he enjoyed the most during his life. Upon moving back to Ohio in June 2020 he resided in Euclid Ohio.
He was also blessed to live with his sister and brothers-in-law, Lillian and Quinn Algood, Donna and Deon Robinson, Andrea Dickerson, Katrina Odili where they all showered him with love and prayers, and kindness during his illness. Ivan loved to spend time reading the Bible, complet-ed several Bible studies which led him to accept Jesus Christ as his per-sonal Savior on May 30 2021.
He will be sadly missed by his father Clayton Roger Dickerson, sisters, Lillian (Quinn) Algood, Donna (Deon) Robinson, Andrea Dickerson, and Katrina (Chike) Odili). He had a host of nieces and nephews, godbrothers, god-sisters, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother Lillian R. Dickerson, brother, Roger Dickerson, Paternal grandparents, Robert and Goldeen Dickerson, and maternal grandparents, Otis Sr. and Ida Wooten.
Family and Friends will be received on Thursday, July 22, 2021 in the Carter Funeral Home /Chapel, 127 West Bridge Street, Elyria. A walk-thru will begin at 10:00AM until 11:30AM. The “Celebration of Life” will follow at 11:30AM. Pastor Quentin M. Dickerson will officiate. Burial at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
