Gerald D Childress

Gerald D. Childress Sr. 88 of Elyria, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 23, 2023, following a brief illness. He was born to Bessie and Vande Childress on Saturday June 2nd, 1934, in Asia, Tennessee.

He attended Townsend High School in Winchester, Tennessee before coming to Ohio where he retired from the Ford Motor Co. after 30 years.  Then he went on to work at Napa Auto Parts for 16 years. He enjoyed gardening, watching westerns, tinkering with cars, spending time with family and going to church services.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter Beverly (Minister Charles) Taylor of Elyria, OH, sons: Gerald D. (Lucia) Childress Jr. of Mansfield, OH, Michael J. (Erica) Childress of Elyria, OH. Sisters: Shirley Nard, Camilla Hayworth both of Huntsville, AL, and Vicky Hardin of Decherd, TN. Aunt Jeanette Marsh of 95 years, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vande and Bessie Childress, wife of 59 years Flora Grace Childress, a daughter Brenda Johnson, brothers Vande Childress Jr., Donald Childress, Rodney Childress, Larry Childress, and sisters Deborah J. Childress-Farris and Virginia Bessierene Martin.
