Gennett Green

Gennett Green, 77, transitioned from this earthy life to be eternally with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Mercy Hospice following a short illness.

Gennett was born Friday, April 13, 1945, in Earl, Arkansas and raised in Memphis, Tennessee where she attended Riverside Elementary School until age 9.

When she was relocated with her younger sister Myrtis Braxton and their mother Geneva Williams, the family moved to Lorain, Ohio to live with their grandfather Sam Calamese.

Gennett went to Washington Elementary, Hawthorne Junior High and graduated from Lorain High in 1963. She went on with nursing and medical secretary for Lorain Community Hospital, later known as, Mercy Hospital, where she retired after serving 45 years from 1965 to 2010.

Gennett attended St. Matthews Church AME before joining Friendship Baptist Church, where she was a Senior Usher. She donated to the    Paralyzed Veterans and St. Jude Cancer Research. She was very active in her walking exercise. Furthermore, she made excellent Lemon Icebox Pies and Caramel Cakes every Christmas Eve and passed them out to her sisters, nieces and nephews.

She leaves behind sisters Myrtis Barlow of Georgia, Cynthia Rowser, Judy Williams and Katrina Williams-Herndon all of Lorain, and hosts of nieces and nephews and brother-in-law's Rogers Rowser, Sr. and Elton Herndon.

Gennett was preceded in death by her mother   Geneva Williams, aunt Jessie Johnson, grandfather Sam Calamese, Grandmother Ada Green, nephews, Jerry Barlow and Jermaine Howard, and good friends Mary Ann Carter, Helen Shannon. 

Gennett held the family together after the passing of her mother and helped raise the host nieces and nephews. May God Bless Her Soul with Much Love.

Services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 2160 Reeves Avenue, Lorain, OH 44052, Thursday December 29, 2022. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and service will begin at 11:00 am. Reverend Dr. John R. Jackson, Pastor will officiate.
