To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born and a time to die…Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 Evelyn (nee Jacobs) Patton, 86, beloved wife and mother, transitioned from the cares of this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Evelyn Jacobs was born on Thursday, November 26, 1931 in Huntsville, Alabama to the parents Henry Jacobs and Madgie Cotton. She was the 6th born of 7 siblings, all brothers. Evelyn begin her journey in Huntsville, during teen years, she met and fell in love with James Henry Patton at local sweet shop in 1940’s. This relationship blossomed into a loving marriage in 1948 and to the union they had six children. They moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1953 and onto Lorain, Ohio in 1960 for employment opportunities. She enjoyed cooking and family time. Cooking outstanding meals and baking the best sweet potato pie on earth! She retired from Lorain Community Hospital as a surgical technician in 1993. She was a former member of Second Baptist Church, Lorain, under Pastor Loversier Lewis where she served as a Deaconess and Usher. A former member of the Eastern Star, Lorain County Section of National Council of Negro Women 2017 Silver Fox Award, currently member of Friendship Baptist Church, Lorain under Pastor John Jackson. Mrs. Patton was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She leaves to mourn her six children, Charlean Lurry, James (Julia Ann) Patton Jr., Denease Andres, Kenneth (Susan) Patton, Cassandra K. (Ralph) Smith, Mark A. (Tuwan) Patton; and host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family and friends. Mrs. Patton was preceded in death by her husband, James Patton in 2002; parents and her six brothers, Lemion Jacobs, LC Jacobs, Henry Jacobs, Jessie Jacobs, Burrell Jacobs, Roosevelt Jacobs
Friends may call Friday, September, 14, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00a.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church, 2160 Reeves Ave., Lorain, Pastor John R. Jackson will officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon,OH. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Carter Funeral Home, 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain, OH 44055
