Errol Browne Obituary

Errol M. Browne departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday October 30,2021 after a brief illness.

Errol was born July 20,1940.  He was the first of three children born to Winifred Braithwaite Browne & Hugh Mortimer Browne.

Errol was a member of Jethro Memorial Presbyterian Church his entire life.  He was baptized there, attended Sunday school, & sang on the choir for many years with his parents.

Errol graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1958.  After graduation he entered the U.S. Army & served two years in Thailand as a sharpshooter.  Upon his return home, he attended Lafayette College in Easton Pa. where he obtained his B.A. degree in psychology.  He also studied Latin & French.

After graduation Errol returned home & worked for Atlantic City Human Resources for a number of years.

He later met and married Dr. Juanita Griffin Browne and they relocated to Wooster Ohio.  While in Wooster they had one son (Errol Tsekani Browne).

Errol decided to further his education, so he attended the College of Wooster where he obtained his master’s degree

Errol loved to sing & play the piano.  He never had a lesson in his life.  He learned to play by ear.  He played and sang for just about everyone’s wedding in the family and many outside of the family.

Errol relocated to Elyria Ohio and played and sang for two churches.  He played for Grace Community Church in Lorain for over 40yrs and Wesley United Methodist Church also in Lorain for more than 20yrs.

He was also involved in several (too numerous to mention) philanthropic projects within his community and the churches he attended.  One of his awards was the Distinguished Service Award for the African American Community Foundation of Lorain County.

Another one of Errol’s loves was playing and watching tennis.  He also liked to watch black & white Turner Classic Movies and anything historical.

Errol loved to travel.  He and his niece Tia Coles traveled to Peru & Spain together.  He also traveled to numerous other foreign countries and went on several cruises.  He traveled to many states just to keep in touch with his many friends and family.  He even dabbled in acting.  He was in the play Carmen Jones.

Errol was employed at the Lorain County Community College from 12/2/74 until his retirement on 3/1/99.  He was the Director of Human Resources there.

Errol loved the Lord.  He read his bible each and every morning and, he most definitely believed in prayer.

He is predeceased by his parents Hugh M. & Winifred M. Browne; his younger brother Emerson M. Browne; his eldest brother Carl H. Browne; and his wife Dr. Juanita Griffin Browne.
