Elaine Smith Obituary

Elaine R. Smith-Hill, 80, affectionately known as, Dadie, was called home to the Lord on Monday, May 30th, 2022. She was born September 14th, 1941, in Oberlin, to the late Urshall “Randy” Randle and the late Rebecca Randle (nee Barnes).

A proud graduate and majorette of Oberlin High School in 1959, then ten years later, Elaine graduated from the Wilkins School of Cosmetology and received her state licensure in Cosmetology. She was a member, a Deaconess, and “Tambourine Lady” of Oberlin Christian Missionary Alliance Church where she enjoyed attending Sunday School every week and helped revive the church pantry to include delivering holiday meals to those in need. Elaine worked for over twenty-five years at General Motors Fisher Body plant in Elyria and was named their first black woman foreman in 1972. Grandma Dadie so enjoyed spending time and playing with her “grands” and “great-grands” as she called them. She loved caring for her flower garden, sewing, and making personalized quilts for friends and family.

Elaine leaves to cherish her memory, children, Mark (Twona) Smith of Oak Park, Michigan, Monica Smith of Oberlin; stepdaughter, Estell Hill; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and former husband, Ronald Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Frank Hill; daughter, Margaret Smith Brown; grandchildren, JaTia and JaKia Brown; brother, Edward Barnes Randle; grandparents, James, and Margaret Barnes; stepson, Joe Hill; and pet German Shephard, Dallas.

Family will receive family and friends for a Celebration of Life, Saturday June 25th, 2022, 11am at Oberlin Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 45440 Butternut Ridge Rd, Oberlin. Pastor Lester A. Allen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Assoc. (https://www.lbda.org/) and the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County (https://friendshipapl.org/).
