Donald Brown Obituary

Donald Otis Brown was born on August, 8, 1934 in Elyria, Ohio to James Otis and Mary Brown. He was the oldest of 7 children and loved his family dearly. He attended Elyria City Schools and was a graduate of Elyria High School. After school he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict. 

July 19, 1979 Donald married the love of his life Dora Junior, to this union one child was born Dora Ellen Brown.

Donald accepted Jesus as his savior at a young age but rededicated his life in the early 80’s. He served diligently as a lay leader until he heard God call him to the ministry. He attended seminary and graduated from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. In 1989 he became an ordained minister, and worked at his life mission to win souls for Jesus. He worked as a Pastor for East Ohio United Methodist Conference pastoring churches all over Ohio. He loved to tell people about the goodness of God. Rev. Brown had a special calling to help the young people of Lorain county and worked as Chaplain for the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home. Rev. Brown had a Pastors heart to help anyone he could.

Tuesday, September 7, 2021 Rev. Brown; loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend transitioned to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Dora H. Brown, son; Willie Arnold, daughters; Dorice Smith, Tracy Arnold, Halima Arnold and Dora Ellen Brown, his adopted son in love, Julian Askew, 19 grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and loved ones. 

Donald was preceded in death by his sons: Samuel Junior, Angelus Arnold, parents; James and Mary Brown, and brother William Brown Sr.

Rev. Brown believed in being a blessing to everyone he would meet and letting his Light shine! His love and jokes will be missed but his LIGHT will always shine in those he has known and loved. 

His Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”!

Family and Friends will be received Monday, Sept 13th 2021 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. for viewing and visitation followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. at First Unity Methodist Church 312 3rd St Elyria, Ohio 44035.  Burial will be held at Brookdale Cemetery, 41600 Oberlin Elyria Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
