Dessie L. Holloway Sherrod
“MaDessie”
Dessie Lee Holloway Sherrod was born to loving parents General Sherman Williams and Magnolia Williams on April 27, 1933, in Ninety-Six, South Carolina. She received her wings and was called home to her eternal paradise on Tuesday, July 04, 2023, surrounded by her family. Dessie graduated from Brewer High School in Ninety-Six, South Carolina Class of 1950.
She met and married Lindsey Holloway in 1950 and out of that loving union 6 beautiful children were born. They traveled from Greenwood, SC to Baltimore, MD before they made their family forever home at 190 Sheriff St, Elyria, OH.
She joined Second Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. R.J. Gordon. She was a long-time devoted member where she has served on the usher board.
Dessie was a loyal, dedicated member and leader of several Orders including Past Matron of Martha Chapter #35, OES, PHA, member of Floyd E. Churchwell #8, HOJ, Honorary Past Commandress of Al Lalim Court #205 Daughters Court.
She was a woman of many hats, to her work was not a job it was a way of life. She worked at a nursing home, Tappan and General Motors. Upon retiring from GM, she opened her home and became a childcare provider. Her pride and joy were being a co-owner of “Cheers Lounge” with her then husband Robert Sherrod. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, gardening, traveling, watching westerns but mostly spending time with her family and friends celebrating birthdays and holidays.
Dessie was preceded in death by her husbands: Robert Sherrod and Lindsey Holloway, son Thomas Holloway, her parents: General and Magnolia Williams, siblings: Carrie Mae Williams, Geneva Scott, General Sherman Williams Jr., Theodore Williams Sr., her son-in-law Charles McLeod, and great grandson James Thoms Jones.
Dessie also known as “MaDessie” leaves to cherish her memory daughters: Bernice Henderson and Carolyn McLeod, sons: Sindsey Holloway, Eugene (Cynthia) Holloway and Kenneth (Andrea) Holloway, sisters: Violet Hodge and Elease Stephens, 10 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Second Baptist Church 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, OH 44035.
Calling hours 6-9pm Monday July 17, 2023, OES Service at 7pm
Viewing 10-11am Tuesday, July 18, 2023 Celebration of Life Ceremony at 11:00am
Interment will be at Brookdale Cemetery
