Clivetta Ruth Grayson - Affectionately known as "Momma", transitioned into eternal rest at 90 years young on 11/17/2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Clivetta was born in Dermott Arkansas on 11/17/1934 to Nancy Ann Wilkes and Garnett Reed. Clivetta was a graduate of the Lorain City Schools.
Clivetta and her family lived in Elyria, Ohio for many years, where she worked and was a volunteer for the Elyria City Schools, where she becamethe first black president of the PTA, for the then Roosevelt Elementary School.
Upon relocating to Lorain, Ohio in 1974, she joined Greater St. Matthew AME Church, where she instantly fell in love with her Church Family. While attending Greater St Matthew Church, she sung with the senior and gospel choir, she was a Sunday school teacher, she printed the church bulletins, she was a trustee, and she was a steward pro-tem. Clivetta also worked the voting polls for over 15 years to honor her forefathers and mothers who never had a chance to vote.
Clivetta was a Missionary for over 40 years, she served as president for 25 of those 40 years and held various positions on the Third District Conference level. Clivetta received many awards and achievement certificates. One of Clivetta's greatest joys besides her family, was the joy of giving. She saw a need to help within her community, so her along with her husband Thurman Grayson, Jack Rutledge and Earl Woods created a food pantry in the back of the church to help families during hard times. They went from serving 55 families to 600 throughout the years up to her retirement.
Clivetta loved going fishing with her husband, she loved to sew, and she loved to learn, "you can never learn it all, but you can try" she always would say. Her pride and joy were her family, and she loved cooking for them and singing as she did. You could always hear her singing " Now lord don't move my mountain but give me the strength to climb and Lord don't take away my stumbling blocks but lead me all around". She knew that can't nobody do her like Jesus because he was her friend.
Clivetta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thurman Grayson, her daughter Monica Whitehead, son Doug Grayson, and a grandson Edward Allen, all of her brothers and a sister.
