Chester A. Bryant, Jr., 78, of Elyria, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022. Born on July 5, 1944 in Saluda, South Carolina, he was the only son of the late Elder Chester A. Bryant, Jr. and Georgia Mae (Coleman) Bryant.
Chester graduated from Elyria High School in 1964 where he set the Class AA mile relay district record at Ely Stadium. Chester was a proud U.S. Marine Veteran and had a short and highly decorated career during his tours in Vietnam. He enlisted in 1964 and received an honorable discharge in 1968. Upon his return from Vietnam, Chester emerged as an exceptional machinist. He worked for local factories like Bendix and retired from the Nordson Corporation, Amherst.
Chester was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church of Elyria, and enjoyed being active with his church. In addition, he enjoyed eating, gardening, interacting with his grandchildren, sharing his resources with his entire family, and was a die-hard fan of each Cleveland sports team, especially the Browns.
His wife, Bertha M. (Lampkin) Bryant, and sons, Anthony Q. Tucker and Mark E. Tucker of Elyria, and Bishop K. Edwin Bryant, Ph.D. of Beavercreek, Ohio, are left to treasurer his memory. Chester also had a brother-in-law, Willie (Bill) Lampkin of Homewood, Illinois; 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Chester A. Bryant, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Chester A. Bryant, Sr., and Georgia Mae (Coleman) Bryant.
The celebration of life for Chester A. Bryant, Jr. will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 10 a.m. until 11:00 am at The Second Baptist Church, 427 W. Chapman Lane, Elyria, OH 44035. Interment will be August 11, 2022 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville at 2:30 p.m.
