Charlene Vaughn (nee Collier) went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 2nd, 2022, in the comfort of her home, in the arms of her loving husband, Joseph Vaughn. Charlene was born on April 27th, 1942, in Athens, Tennessee. She relocated to Buffalo, New York before making her permanent home in Lorain, Ohio. Charlene worked as a Nurse’s Aide in Westlake, Ohio for 11 years and as a Crane Operator for 20 years at Republic Steel. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, cooking, and spending time with family. Mother Vaughn was one of the founding members of Compassion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James Williams. She then transferred her membership to Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church in Elyria where she served as a Church Nurse. She was the co-founder of Helping Hands Feeding Foundation and served for 15 years. Under the Chicago River Association, Mother Vaughn served on the Women’s Auxiliary and was President of the Mother Board. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton J. Collier, and Ruth Wilson; Sister: Almeda Y. Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 32 years Joseph Vaughn; Brother: Clayton Collier; 6 Sons: Keith Pool; Kerry Pool (Sylvia); Alaric Pool Jr. (Lisa); Marlon Jeffries (Mary); Vincent Ward (Mary); Joseph Vaughn Jr (Tomesha); 38 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, an adopted daughter Willie Lee Johnson and granddaughter Chelly Johnson; and a host of friends and loved ones.
Charlene’s home-going celebration will be held at God’s Believers in Christ Church at 520 W. 22nd St, Lorain on Monday July 11th. Visitation will be from 10:00am-11:00am. Service will begin at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow at Ridge Hill Cemetery.
