Carla Gettis Obituary

Carla J. Gettis, 44 transitioned from this earthly life surrounded by her family, on Wednesday July 3, 2024. Carla was born to the union of Carl and Meryla Gettis on December 9, 1979, in Elyria, Ohio. She attended Elyria City School District, where she was a member of the EHS Pioneer Marching Band for all four years of high school. She graduated from Elyria High School in 1999.

Carla was currently employed with Mercy Health Medical Center, where she worked as a Registered Medical Assistant for eight years. She was an active member in her church, Kingdom Purpose and Power (Pastor Carlton Winfree) where she served as the church secretary and assistant.

Carla was a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. She truly lived a beautifully filled life that was full of love, laughter and resilience. Carla had the ability to remain positive and calm in every situation without complaining. She always encouraged others to pursue their dreams no matter how big or small. She was known for her contagious loud laugh and sense of humor (if you know you know). She definitely will be missed at the family gatherings although she would come loud and late every time.  She loved spending time laughing, joking and loving on her nephews and also attending all their events hyping them up and posting their accomplishments. Shopping was also something she loved doing with her mom and sisters, and we all know (PINK was her favorite store especially twice a year during the semi-annual). Carla brought immeasurable light and joy to everyone around her. She was a true example of Matthew 5:16. Though her time with us was brief, the depth of love and happiness she shared will forever remain in our hearts.

Carla is survived by her mother Meryla Gettis; Brothers Stephen (Soniqua) and Kenneth (Raquel) Gettis; Sisters Victoria and Malissa Gettis; Uncle Robert Gettis; Aunt Marlena Llyod Nephews Kaleb, Sean, and Grant Gettis; Godchildren Kaylonna, Alyse, and Alyssa Robinson, Tamarr, Terin, Tayla, and Tanae Long; Lifelong Best Friends Kaniesha Robinson and Natisha Long; Nieces Shawntavia and Khadija Jones; significant other Justin Triplett of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of family and friends.

Carla was preceded in death by her father, Carl Gettis.
