Betty Thomas McGhee, 68, of Elyria departed the physical and transitioned to eternal peace at home on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
“Sally” as she was affectionately known, was born from the union of Betty Cofield and Ollie Thomas on February 15, 1956, in Lorain, Ohio.
Betty spent a lot of time in her community attending functions, festivals, and church. She loved barbecues, gardening, cooking, and entertaining guests. She enjoyed any gathering that involved good music, great food and family. You could catch her dancing and rapping to her favorite artist, Waka Flaka Flame. Betty was fond of beautiful items: purses, jewelry, and fancy clothes. Thrifting was one of her favorite hobbies. She was a compassionate person who always spoke her mind. Her genuine spirit and loud laugh were contagious.
Betty was an entertainer by trade. She found delight in conversing with customers, mixing up a cocktail, and dressing to impress. She worked as a bartender at Camel Lounge in downtown Elyria for over ten years. In her later years, she was devoted caregiver to her family members with special attention to her grandsons.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory to her husband James McGhee and three children; Fredrick, Syreeta, and Endeana Thomas. She adored her four brothers: Leon (Gwen) Cofield, Kenneth Thomas, Leroy Thomas, and Raymond Thomas. Her uncles Earnest Jr Cofield & Willie Cofield were dear to her. She loved and treasured her 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and tons of relative & friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Earnest & Marth Louise Cofield, parents Betty & Ollie Thomas, Sister-in-Love LaVinia, brother David Thomas, beloved son Lewis (Squeek) Thomas, grandchildren Alexis & Dashawn Lewis, four aunts, and her dog Pooch.
Family & Friends will be received Friday, September 27th, 2024, beginning at 10 AM at Unity Baptist Church, 336 Fuller Road, Elyria Funeral services will begin promptly at 11 AM. Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
