Arthur Lee Thomas

Arthur Lee Thomas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the age of 89 after a meaningful life. He was born on March 5th, 1934, in Glendora, Mississippi to Burt Thomas and Tennie Mae Lampkins.

He married Leola Wilson of Clarkdale, Mississippi where they had children Mac, Carl and Leola's son, Roosevelt Frazier, who has passed. Arthur later had a son, Michael Stigall, who lovingly became his caregiver in his last months.

The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at O'Neil Healthcare who eased his transition along with sons Mac and Michael and daughter-in-law Karen.

The family moved north to Elyria in 1961 to escape racial tension in the deep South. After various jobs Art found employment at General Motors from where retired.

Arthur enjoyed collecting unusual items which he used to enhance his beloved home. He also was a devoted fan of Cleveland sports teams. 

Later he became a devoted member of Mount Zion Baptist Church when he embraced spiritual growth.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leola and his second wife, Sue Burks. 

He is survived by his sons Mac, Carl, Michael Stigall, several grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him. 

The viewing will be held on Monday, Oct 2, 2023, from 4p-6p at Carter Funeral Home 127 W bridge St Elyria, Oh.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 3,2023 at 11am located at Mount Zion Baptist Church 614 West River Road N Elyria, Oh.
