Sunrise: 10/27/1939 - Sunset: 2/5/2026

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant…” – Matthew 25:23

The Reverend White born in Welsh, WV to the late Joe and Ethel White on 10/27/1939. His family later moved to Elyria, OH, where he attended/graduated from Elyria High School in 1957. Continuing his lifelong pursuit of personal growth, he received his Associate’s Degree from Lorain County Community College (LCCC).

In 1961, he united in holy matrimony with Dorothy M. Williams in Elyria, OH, and together they shared 64 beautiful years of marriage, building a legacy of love, faith, and family.

The Reverend White served in the United States Army from 1963-1966. Afterwards, he had a 36+ year career at Ford Motor Co. in Lorain. A pillar in both community and church, The Reverend White founded the first African-American golf league, originally ‘the Super Slammers’ and later ‘the Linksters’ in 1968. He was known for devoting more than a decade as a Little League South baseball coach, positively supporting the community’s youth. He took pride in being an intellectual, who was well-read yet reserved, and who enjoyed gathering with family and friends sharing roller skating, fishing, hunting, golfing, and sports. He was known for being a cherished storyteller who loved knowledge and history.

A faithful member of Jones Chapel AME Church, The Reverend White accepted his call to the ministry in 1980 and was ordained an Itinerant Elder in 1987 in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He served in various capacities and as Head Marshal for the Bishop at the AME Annual Conference, signifying his unwavering commitment to his faith and church community.

The Reverend White was hospitalized at University Hospitals (Elyria) in 12/8/2025, and after courageously fighting the good fight of faith he peacefully transitioned on 2/5/2026 at AMES Western Reserve Hospice Center (Westlake) while surrounded by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Ethel White; brother Joe White; uncles Brody White, Sam White, John White, and Cleo White; aunt Bertha Tolbert; aunt Beulah White; and niece Michelle Hammond.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 64 years, Dorothy M. White; his beloved children David A. White and Melissa Harris (nee White); six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his treasured siblings Mona Atley Bowie and Dwayne White; brother-in-law Ernest Bowie; his cherished in-laws Billy Williams, Patty Williams, and Alita Quinn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church family and dear friends.

The Reverend Archie L. White will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, mentor, community leader, and devoted servant of God whose quiet strength, wisdom, education, and unwavering faith left an enduring imprint on all who knew him.
