The Life of Alfred Kennard Sr.
May 7, 1936 – October 22, 2021
Al Kennard (a.ka. Bo) was born on May 7, 1936 to Abraham and Mary Lou Kennard in Forkland Alabama. The 2nd oldest of 13 children, Al was a trail blazer. After finishing school, he left Alabama for Ohio, by way of Chicago, where he worked at US Steel and then Ford Motor Co, where he retired after 30+ years of service. He then worked as a crossing guard for 10+ year and then official retired, citing the kids were too bad. Al lived a simple life, he was passionate about gardening and had a green thumb and could grow anything. He was an avid cook and cooked the best ribs in town. He also loved sports, puzzles, playing cards and was a bid whist wizard.
Al went home to be with the Lord on October 22, 2021. He was preceded in death by his son, Alfred Kennard, Jr, his parents Abraham Sr. and Mary Lout Kennard, dear uncle and aunt, J.G and Mary Jones, sisters, Margaret Kennard and Alvenia Kennard Hawkins and his brother James Kennard Sr.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 33 years Jacqualine Kennard, his children, Winifred Kennard, Veronica Kennard-Gilbert (James), Garnettia Kennard, Albert James Kennard, Eddie Rush, Terrance Rush, Betty Hervey, and Debbie Hancock (Zachary).
He also leaves behind his nine siblings, Mary M. Kennard, Abraham (Flora) Kennard, Annie(Isiah) Mack, Jr., Judge (Sandra Faye) Kennard, Girlee Kennard Harris, Rev. Dr. John (Pamela) Kennard, Tommy Lee Kennard, Rosie Kennard Williams (Elmore), Mollie Kennard Rowe, beloved aunt Mrs. Catherine Wynn, twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. A host of cherished nieces and nephews and dear cousins who loved him dearly.
Services will be held on Friday November 5, 2021 at Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, Ohio 44035. Viewing Hour 10:00 am – 11:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony.
