He enlisted into the Air Force, and served in Europe, for three years. After his service he returned to Elyria where most of his family had migrated from Mississippi. He worked in Cleveland for the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS). While he was an editor, he performed freelance writing. After receiving moderate success as a freelance writer, he decided to move to California to write for the movie industry. After having only moderate success as a screenwriter and actor, God acknowledged that God has greater plans for his life.

The two were married in 1979 for 16 years, and raised three children: Orlando Demone, Dana, and Abel Nathaniel (Nate). He served as a deacon at the Call Out Church and was later ordained as a minister. Abel also served as pastor for a local church and later held services out of his home on middle avenue. Eventually, God led Abel to join Christ Temple Apostolic Church where he has been a faithful member to his final days.
