Ricky Allan Mathis Sr. was born July 1, 1952 and was called home on October 23, 2017 at his home in Columbus, Ohio, following a brief illness.

Ricky loved music, shooting pool, fishing, and was a pretty good baseball player back in the day.

Ricky is survived by his six children, Tonetta M. Hill, Coretta Y. Tatum, and Mario L. Mathis Sr., of Elyria; Ricky A. Mathis Jr., and Molliesha P.S. Mathis-Gunter of Lorain; and Damond L. Mathis Sr., of Vermillion; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Siblings, Mary Donnell of San Francisco, California; Eartha Diane Gaines of Saginaw, Michigan; Selby Wade Mathis (Towne) of Livingston, Texas; Peter Mathis Sr., Martin L. Mathis, and Vedrienne Williams of Elyria; and a host of nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

Ricky was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Mae Mathis, father, Reverend Charles L. Mathis Sr., brothers, Charles L. Mathis Jr., Theodore M. Mathis, Lemuel Voorhies, and James H. Mathis; and sisters, Sheryl Ann Mathis-Pettigrew and Susan M. Croft.

  Friends may call on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon at the Carter Funeral Home 127 West Bridge Street Elyria, Ohio 44035 where the service will be held.
