Mary Alice Burnette

Mary “Alice Mae” Burnette (nee Hunter) 85 of Lorain, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2017 in the Mercy Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

She was born in Birmingham, Alabama coming to Lorain in 1948. She was employed with the Lorain County Human Services as an assistant caseworker retiring after many years of service.

Mrs. Burnette was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Lorain where she served as Dean of Christian Education, Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, Missionary President and Dean of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Progressive Congress of Cleveland, OH, a life member of NAACP Lorain Branch, Past Worthy Matron of Buckeye #46 O.E.S. Prince Hall Affiliation of Lorain, OH.

Her hobbies were reading and teaching.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Mattie White of Lorain and 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild,  brothers: James Hunter and Robert Hunter, sisters: Doris Ranson and Rose.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur, daughter Velma, sons Larry and Rev. Wilbur Burnette Jr., parents Albert and Mattie Hunter, two sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until time of The Order of Eastern Star service at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1516 E. 30th Street, Lorain, OH 44055. The Celebration of Life will be at 12:00 (noon). Rev. Shirley Howard will officiate. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
