Georgia Jones

February 10, 1937 ~ November 12, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Sister Georgia Mae Jones, 80 of Elyria, transitioned from this life to eternal rest on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born February 10, 1937 in Greenville, Mississippi to George McGill and Lena Cooks-Johnson, and later come to Ohio in 1956.

Sister Jones attended school in Cleveland, Mississippi and later continued her education at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where she received a certificate in food service.

Baptized at an early age, she always loved the Lord and held various positions in the ministry. She joined Mt. Nebo Primitive Church under the leadership of Elder William Hale and remained there for 28 years. She later moved on to True Vine Primitive Baptist Church where she was member for 33 years, she remained there until the time of her death.

Sister Jones enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. She was the head cook at Head Start for 32 years, owned a small catering business, and worked for Carter Funeral Home for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star’s Chapter 35-OES-PHA for 36 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Georgette “Cookie” Smith of Elyria, Oh, Madeline Jones of Kentucky, IL and sons, Ronald Johnson and Daniel Lee “Chubby” Jones of Elyria, Ohio and Kedrick (Kimberly) Jones of Lorain, Ohio; nieces, Alice Faye Caldwell of Georgia, Debra French (Larry) of Chicago, and Ethel Campbell of Chicago; one nephew, Richard Harris of Rockford, IL; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Jones Jr; her father George McGill, mother, Lena Cook-Johnson, and step-father Anthony Johnson, daughters, Sylvia D. Jones and Sharon M. Jones; grandson; Dustin Bassett; sister, Voella Smith; and step-brother, Louis Johnson.
